GEORGE ADZIGIAN, CHIEF OF STAFF, 38TH  ANNUAL WELLESLEY VETERANS’ PARADE

George Adzigian , 92, a longtime member and former Commander of the Wellesley American Legion Post #72 was inducted into the Army Air Force (AAF) in June 1942.
He is being honored for his many years of involvement with numerous veterans groups and has participated in most all of the previous Wellesley Veterans’ Parades.

He took his training at Chanute Field, Illinois and did service at Johnson Field, North Carolina for additional training, before embarking in a 99 ship convoy that took 15 days to reach Liverpool, England.

Once there he began his duty as a Sergeant with a group of technicians in a bomber group assigned to repairing battle damaged B17 bombers in readiness for missions over Germany and Europe and in preparation of the D-Day invasion of Europe of June 6, 1944.

He continued servicing bombers for the balance of World War II before returning back to the United States in December of 1945 on the Queen Mary arriving in Brooklyn, N.Y. from Liverpool, this time in just 4 days.

After his return he settled in Wellesley and married Wellesley native Jeanne McLea and they are the parents of 4 daughters, who graduated from Wellesley High School then college and are now married and live around the world, from England to West Roxbury.

His brother Dr. Ned Adzigian, who was a well known local physician and their two sisters, lived for many years on Cliff Road in Wellesley.

Adzigian retired as an employee of Wellesley School Department after 28 ½ years in 1980, but has always kept up his involvement with local veterans’ groups.
